The TikTok trend that is promoting violence against women

A disturbing and violently graphic trend has started on the social media platform TikTok. Whereby men describe the ways in which they would kill women and end it with ‘and then you f*cking die’. 

The trend which has been created mostly by men has become a joke within that particular TikTok community. Although TikTok has removed a number of the videos, there are still several that remain and new ones are being uploaded daily. 

Some of the videos have over 1 million likes and views with many of the comments agreeing with the statements made. 

The detailed descriptions and threatening behaviour mocks real fears that women go through daily, especially when it comes to dating. The men in involved in this trend are reinforcing this. 

Could this trend be linked to the distribution and accessibility of violent porn to younger men? Porn sites actively promoting this type of violence could lead to impressionable young men normalising it.
